Conyac is a Young Achievement Australia(YAA) company. YAA companies essentially involve a group of young individuals who open and run a company for six months under the guidance of advisers from their sponsor companies. The YAA business skills program provides young students with the opportunity to be involved in a cross-disciplinary, practical and stimulating environment, which introduces them to the real `jungle' of the business world.

Conyac formed in April this year, whereby the first assignment for its members was to create a company name which had to include `YA.' This was followed by deciding on the product that Conyac would develop - not as easy as one would think! We began by brainstorming where we generated ideas ranging from key ring torches to bags. After narrowing down our selections and carrying out extensive market research, Conyac members finally decided on manufacturing and selling novelty plants, namely bonsai, cacti and venus fly traps. At this point we needed to raise the capital required to start our business which was done by selling shares.

Each member of Conyac has been appointed to an individual role, in some cases to two or three roles, as well as being involved in the manufacturing and sales of the novelty plants. This experience has proven to be both successful and enjoyable.

If anyone is thinking about participating in the YAA business skills program, all Conyac members would encourage you to do so. From this program you have the opportunity to acquire and further develop not only your business skills, but your communication and team skills while also building your confidence.
